Weekend Project 1 :: Making an Apple & Pear Pie

Yesterday, I told myself that I would make a pie from scratch. And I did.
Very successfully.

Did I mention it was my very first time making pie EVER?!

With a few curse words and a hissy fit later, I created an almost perfect crust...

That was pretty much the most difficult part of the whole pie creation - the devilish crust! ... But it turned out to be pretty all right.

In fact, not to toot my own horn or anything, but it came out absolutely delicious!

Mom said I'm hired for making pie for Thanksgiving.

For a long time I've been fascinated by Edward Gorey. His overtly textured & detailed illustrations have always had a huge influence on my art. And his hand-drawn type is out of this world!

So When I stumbled upon these letters in Gorey's Floating Worlds: The Letters of Edward Gorey and Peter F. Neumeyer I was heavily inspired to start writing mail again. Who needs a canvas?!

You would think that weekend mornings are for sleeping in, no? Well in all actuality it's my time to be quite, sip hot tea, feel the cool morning air through french windows, and find inspiring things for the week.

Found this video over at NotCot and couldn't help but repost. Sometimes I forget how simple and amazing the world is. Throw some well designed type over it and you've got me for life.

I love the way this video makes me feel. Sometimes you just have to stop and remember things are beautiful and we are so lucky to live such privileged lives.

My Favorite Summer Cocktail

I'm a huge fan of drinking vodka (greyhounds especially). It is my favorite liquor to drink during hot weather, which for LA, it seems to be hot all the time.

I stumbled upon this little cocktail this morning and it make me think of lounging on a sunny porch, swinging in a big hammock and reading a book.

I can't wait to give it a taste this weekend...

::Ingredients ::

grapefruit tarragon infused vodka

freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice, strained

flaky sea salt

agave nectar
